Snow Noise Assemblage
15 years ago, an anonymous lone man in Japan released one of the best shoegaze albums of the 21st century. After releasing the album, an EP, and a couple of other tracks he vanished from the internet. The album since then picked up a cult following. Now, he has been found and his debut is finally getting the release it deserves.
The album’s title of “Snow Noise Assemblage” is not an understatement. The album welcomes you with loud distorted walls of sound and is there with the listener every step of the way. It’s a beautiful patchwork of classic 90s shoegaze song structure, mid-2000s electronic shoegaze instrumentation and production (Sweet Trip, early M83), and sheer distorted noise.
